in middle school i took a year off to apprentice with cigar-chomping german master-craftsman H. Niespor who taught me how to lay out and letter signs and lay down gold leaf.

during high school i lettered and pinstriped race cars, vans and motorcycles. i learned to weld and drew flash for a tattoo artist. i built stage sets, and big county displays for the state fair. it was the seventies and i rode a ratbike of a harley chopper that i had built myself.

while finishing college in washington d.c. i built a rolling art car for Chrysler which was displayed at the white house. i worked as a designer and illustrator and paid my own tuition.

after school, i came home to california to work as a typographer. personal computers became tools and the sign industry beckoned me back to my roots.

as a freelancer i consult with global branding agencies to help develop corporate brand signing programs and their related signing application guidelines. i work with custom signage fabricators to help administer the actual implementation and rollout of new corporate signing programs. in addition i can provide digital image manipulation and illustration work for selected clients.
